Rob Baskin Named to STEAM Sports Foundation Board of Directors

Rob Baskin, president and general manager of Weber Shandwick Atlanta, has joined the Board of Directors for the STEAM Sports Foundation, a 501c3 that seeks funding primarily for educational programs, curriculums, and scholarships in an effort to unite business, education, and sports. The foundation recognizes workforce and economic development as an integral part of corporate growth while working with companies, educators, and sports groups, to develop initiatives around science, technology, engineering, arts, and math that prepare and excite America’s youth in an effort to create tomorrow’s vibrant workforce.

Baskin comes to the foundation board with more than 35 years of public relations agency and corporate experience, including a 15-year tenure at The Coca-Cola Company where he was director of corporate communications, director of public relations, and director of marketing communications. “I’ve had the honor of working with many great corporations during my career,” Baskin said, “and if there is one recurring theme, it is the growing sense of corporate responsibility. I believe STEAM Sports Foundation addresses a very real need within the educational sector with its focus on sports and entertainment, activities which students enjoy and in which they’re eager to participate.” Baskin’s clients have included Coca-Cola, Home Depot, Equifax, United Way, Emory University, Northside Hospital, Old Dominion Freight Line, Atlanta Police Department, CDC Foundation, Atlanta Public Schools, AFLAC, Carter’s, Philips Electronics, Bank of America, Invesco, Honeywell, LogistiCare, UPS, and the Odum School of Ecology at the University of Georgia. He developed and led Coca-Cola’s international and national public relations strategy and local market PR program activation for nine Olympic Games (1984-2002), as well as the company’s other major sponsorships, including the on-site activation of fan festivals at All-Star games and championship events of the NFL, NBA, NHL and NCAA. In addition, for a decade he was at the forefront of the company’s public relations programs addressing health/wellness and nutritional issues. . Baskin earned a BA in political science and an MA in journalism from The Ohio State University. In addition to STEAM Sports Foundation, he serves on the Boards of Trustees of the Atlanta Police Foundation, the Georgia Council on Economic Education, the Georgia Center for Non-Profits and the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival. He formerly served on the Boards of the Georgia Alliance for Children, the Atlanta Sports Council and the Atlanta Tip-Off Club. Baskin joins board members Joan Cronan, former Women’s Athletics Director at the University of Tennessee; Matt Jennings, President of Bosch Software Innovations; William White, regional vice president for Project Lead The Way and former NFL and Ohio State standout; and STEAM Sports Group/STEAM Sports Foundation founder Bob Dickinson.
